You can start a memorial program before you have perfect wording. The most useful first step is to settle the service date, approximate quantity and one family contact. Those decisions let the designer build a realistic plan instead of asking several relatives to approve different versions.

Use this checklist for a funeral program, celebration-of-life booklet or church service handout. It separates the details you can gather now from the decisions that need a proof.

Choose the finished size and page count

A page is one face of the finished program, not one sheet of paper. A sheet printed on both sides and folded once makes four pages. A four-page program can hold a cover, order of service, short life story and acknowledgments. An eight-page folded booklet uses two sheets printed on both sides, giving more room for photographs, readings and family messages.

For a familiar half-letter program, an 8.5 × 11-inch sheet folds to 5.5 × 8.5 inches. An 11 × 17-inch sheet folds to 8.5 × 11 inches. Tell the studio the finished size you want; “letter size” can otherwise mean either the sheet or the folded piece. Booklet page order is arranged during layout, rather than by putting ordinary PDF pages side by side yourself. Adobe explains booklet printing and page arrangement.

Gather the details that must be exact

  • The name as it should appear, including preferred names and spelling.
  • Birth and passing dates, checked by the family contact.
  • Service date, time, venue name and any public address to include.
  • Order of service, with speakers, readings and music confirmed by the organizer.
  • The approved obituary, acknowledgments and any requested dedication.
  • One clear portrait and a small selection of meaningful photographs.

Keep this information in one document. If two relatives disagree about a detail, resolve it before sending the final text. A designer should not have to choose which family account is correct.

Send the strongest photographs you have

Original image files usually give the designer more to work with than screenshots of a social-media page. If a photo came from a photographer or another relative, confirm that you may use it. Do not crop tightly around the head before sending the original; the layout may need space around the portrait.

Tell us which image is the cover portrait. Label the others by subject or occasion when that information matters. A photograph does not need to be recent to be the right choice: a favorite image that the family recognizes can be more meaningful than a formal portrait nobody likes.

Review one consolidated proof

Ask the family contact to collect corrections in one list. Check the name, every date, the service address, page order, photograph crops, speaker names and acknowledgments. Read the program aloud once; awkward line breaks and missing words are often easier to catch that way.

The interactive designs are a starting point. The studio supplies the final proof for approval before production. Changes after approval can affect cost and timing, especially when a service date is close.

Confirm pickup, delivery and the final quote

For Lancaster pickup, arrange a time after the programs are ready. Palmdale and Rosamond families can request a local delivery quote or arrange pickup in Lancaster. Give us the arrival deadline, not just the service start time; someone may need the programs earlier to set up.

Our estimate is not a confirmed booking. Paper, capacity, proof approval, payment, tax and delivery are reviewed before a production slot is accepted. Explore the program designs, then build a quote with the details you already have.
